Документ A remote sensing approach to assess algal beta-carotene content in solar salt evaporation ponds(ХНУ ім. В.Н. Каразіна, 2018-03-16) Komaristaya, V.; Bezrodnova, O.; Rudas, A.The present research attempts to calibrate satellite images against field data on D. salina ß-carotene concentration expressed per 1 L of brine. We found the empirical relation between ß-carotene quantity and the index based on two infrared reflectance bands (NIR and SWIR).Документ Age-associated changes in the content of collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans in rats’ skin and aorta(V.N.Karazin Kharkov National University (Kharkov, Ukraine), 2008) El-ta’alu, A.B.; Kot, Yu.G.; Falchenko, K.V.; Persky, Ye.E.; Ponomarenko, A.N.Age-related changes in concentrations of the major connective tissue macromolecules – collagen, elastin, separate fractions of glycosaminoglycans – hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulphates, heparan sulphate, and dermatan sulphate, as well as their proportion in both the skin and aorta were studied. An age-related increase of collagen content in both the skin and aorta and at the same time a decrease of elastin content were shown in these tissues. The content of hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulphates, heparan sulphate and dermatan sulphate increases in the skin with age. Contrarily, in the aorta, a decrease in concentrations of hyaluronic acid and dermatan sulphate takes place with age, while those of chondroitin sulphates and heparan sulphate increase. Algae of Desna river and its flood-land water bodies of Desniansko-Starogutsky National Nature Park(Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life sciences, 2011-05) Burova, O.; Zhezhera, M.Total of 354 species of algae were found, 21 taxa being rare for Ukraine, among them 11 are new for Ukrainian Polissia.Документ Annotated checklist of aphyllophoroid fungi of Ukraine(2003) Akulov, A.Yu.; Usichenko, A.S.; Leontyev, D.V.; Yurchenko, E.O.; Prydik, N.P.The checklist of aphyllophoroid fungi (except of taxa with typical clavarioid and stipitate cantharelloid basidiomata) based on the data of literature since 1842 and examined collections from WU, KW, LE, and MSK herbaria includes 461 species. Five species are belonged to doubtful records; 30 names are classified as dubious, confused, or of unclear application. The species are accompanied with the numbers of reference herbarium specimens, data on the earliest publishing for Ukraine, distribution in botanic- geographical districts (geobotanical regions) of Ukraine, and appropriate numbered literature references. Besides of upto-date nomenclature, the synonyms used in the quoted publications and herbarium labels are listed. Six species are recorded from Ukraine for the first time on the base of collections gathered by the authors. The new species and new finds for the geobotanical region (districts) are provided by brief information about locality, substratum, collector(s), and date of collection. Taxa are arranged according to the system accepted in the 9th edition of Ainsworth and Bisby's dictionary of the fungi . The checklist is supplemented by the floristic bibliography on aphyllophoroid fungi of Ukraine with titles in original languages and in English.Документ Annotated checklist of Hygrophoraceae (Agaricales, Basidiomycota) in Ukraine(ХНПУ імені Григорія Сковороди, 2021) Chvikov, V; Prylutskyi, OHygrophoraceae is a family within Agaricales, which comprises 26 genera and approximately 690 agaricoid species, including ectomycorrhizal, lichen-forming, bryophilous, humus and litter decomposing fungi. Some of these species especially those from genera Cuphophyllus, Hygrocybe, Neohygrocybe and Porpolomopsis are associated with natural grasslands and show extreme sensitivity to the presence of nitrogen-containing fertilizers in their substrate. This makes them indicative species of grasslands of high conservation value. While casual observations of Hygrophoraceae of Ukraine were incorporated in studies of agaricoid fungi as a whole, this family has never been in the focus of special research. Previously accumulated data on the diversity of Hygrophoraceae in Ukraine must be aggregated and revised. We have summarized all available data on the occurrences of Hygrophoraceae in Ukraine, including published papers, open databases, citizen science observations, and the previously unpublished original collection materials. Also, we provide an original description of the rare European species Haasiella venustissima (Fr.) Kotl. & Pouzar ex Chiaffi & Surault, which is reported for the first time from the territory of Ukraine. The resulting checklist of Hygrophoraceae of Ukraine includes 66 species. Leading genera are Hygrophorus (22 species), Hygrocybe (17) and Arrhenia (10); 5 species among them (Hygrocybe punicea, Hyrgocybe splendidissima, Neohygrocybe nitrata, Neohygrocybe ovina, Porpolomopsis calyptriformis) are threatened and according to “IUCN Red List” considered “Vulnerable”. The finds of 22 species in Ukraine were reported as doubtful. Carpathian Forests and LeftBank Forest-Steppe are the phytogeographic regions with the highest known diversity of Hygrophoraceae; however, this may be explained by the sampling bias. In spite of the long history of investigations and rather big amount of data, the checklist may be significantly updated by further surveys of grassland habitats, wider using of molecular identification methods, and by implementation of the best practices in biodiversity data management, e.g. photographing of fresh fruit bodies, digitization and databasing of observations.Документ Channichthys mithridatis, a new species of icefishes (Perciformes: Notothenioidei: Channichthyidae) from the Kerguelen Islands (East Antarctica), with comments on the taxonomic status of Channichthys normani(V.N.Karazin Kharkiv National University (Kharkiv, Ukraine), 2008) Shandikov, G.A.; Шандиков, Г.О.The sub-Antarctic genus Channichthys, endemic for the area of the Kerguelen-Heard Plateau of the Southern Ocean, includes 7 nominal species of unicorn icefishes: C. rhinoceratus Richardson, 1844, C. rugosus Regan, 1913, C. velifer Meissner, 1974, C. panticapaei Shandikov, 1995, C. irinae Shandikov, 1995, C. bospori Shandikov, 1995 and C. aelitae Shandikov, 1995. The last four were described on the basis of materials collected by the 1990 research expedition (the 23rd cruise of R/V Professor Mesyatsev) of YugNIRO to the Kerguelen Islands area. The lately described C. normani Balushkin, 1996 is considered to be a junior synonym of C. panticapaei. In the present paper a new, the eighth species of genus Channichthys is described – C. mithridatis sp. n. – green icefish (on the basis of 29 specimens), collected in the same (R/V Professor Mesyatsev) cruise. The new species is closely related to C. irinae, but in the most differs from it by the uniserial gill-rakers, frequency distribution and greater number of spines in first dorsal fin, relatively smaller eye, large mouth and by traits of biology – C. mithridatis is piscivorous, while C. irinae is a typical zooplankton consumer.Документ Cosmospora stegonsporii sp. nov.(CBS Fungal Biodiversity Centre, 2008) Rossman, A.Y.; Farr, D.F.; Akulov, A.Yu.Документ Cryptophyta разнотипных водоемов Левобережного Полесья (Украина)(Харьковский национальный университет им. Earthworm (Lumbricidae) casts have been proven experimentally to have a higher acid-base buffering capacity in comparison with that of the initial soil. Remediated soils enriched with earthworm casts become more resistant to negative anthropogenic effects. Thus, the activity of soil saprophages influences positively the environmental properties of remediated soils on forest remediation sites by increasing their buffer capacity.Документ Evaluation of contribution of salinity, irradiance, and nutrient deficiency into the yield of cells and beta-carotene accumulation in the culture of Dunaliella salina (Chlorophyta)(Kherson State University (Ukraine), 2018-06) Komaristaya, V.P.; Bilousova, K.M.; Rudas, O.M.The purpose of the study was to evaluate the contribution of salinity, irradiance, nitrate and phosphate, and their interactions into the yield of cell number and beta-carotene accumulation in Dunaliella salina. To avoid confounding of the effects of factors-conditions by the depletion of factors-resources, the alga was grown in fed-batch culture. In the level ranges of the experimental factors (irradiance 2–8 klx, salinity 1–4 M NaCl, KNO3 0–80 mg L-1, K2HPO4 0–10 mg L-1), nitrate and phosphate influenced the productivity of culture by cell number and beta-carotene accumulation more strongly than salinity and irradiance. Effects of salinity and irradiance depended on nutrients and their pre-supply to the inoculum. Total effect size eta squared of nutrients on cell yield comprised 0,59 for non-starved and 0,43 for starved inoculum, whereas total effect size of factors-conditions – 0,10 and 0,12 correspondingly. As to cellular beta-carotene content, total effect size of nutrients on the cells grown from non-starved and starved inoculum was 0,71 and 0,58, and of factors conditions – 0,8 and 0,5 correspondingly. Remained variances of cell yield and beta-carotene content were attributed to the interactions of salinity and irradiance with the nutrients. The combination of high values of salinity and irradiance exerted its own, unconfounded by depletion of nutrients, but lower influence on beta-carotene accumulation. The highest beta-carotene content of 53 pg per cell was observed in the culture grown from the starved inoculum at the deficiency of phosphorus. Combination of high salinity and irradiance values yielded 17 pg of beta-carotene per cell compared to about 5 pg under the optimal culture conditions. Controlled nutrient supply would be the most powerful tool for biosynthesis control in D. salina culture.Документ Extension of life span of Drosophila melanogaster by the inhibitors of tryptophan-kynurenine metabolism(Landes Bioscience, 2011) Oxenkrug, G.; Navrotskaya, V.; Vorobyova, L.; Summergrad, P.Upregulation of kynurenine (KYN) formation from tryptophan (TRY) was associated with aging in animal and human studies. TR Y-KYN metabolism is affected by the activities of TR Y 2,3-dioxygenase 2 (TDO) and AT P-binding cassette (ABC) transporter regulating TR Y access to intracellular TDO. We studied the effects of TDO inhibitor, alpha-methyl tryptophan (aMT) and ABC transported inhibitor, 5-methyl tryptophan (5MT), on the life span of wild strain female Drosophila flies (Oregon-R). aMT and 5MT prolonged mean and maximum life span (by 27% and 43%, and 21% and 23%, resp.). The present results are the first observation of the extension of life span of Drosophila melanogaster by inhibitors of TR YKYN metabolism, and in line with literature and previous studies on prolonged life span of TDO- and ABC-deficient female Drosophila mutants. Inhibitor of TDO and ABC transporter activity might offer the new target for anti-aging interventions.Документ First data about fungal diversity of the “Trekhizbenskyi Step” division of the Luhansk Nature Reserve(Херсонський державний університет, 2013) Ordynets, O.; Akulov, O.; Helleman, StipOne hundred and fifty fungal species were revealed by us in the “Trekhizbenskyi Step” division of the Luhansk Nature Reserve. Of them, 52 species are those belonging to Ascomycota and 98 to Basidiomycota. All the species are reported from the research area for the first time. Eleven species are recorded in Ukraine for the first time. The records of Perrotia cf. succina (W. Phillips) Dennis and Streptotinia caulophylli M.E. Elliott are new to Europe. Phaeosphaeria sp. collected from Chamaecytisus ruthenicus (Fisch. ex Vorosch.) Klask. is supposed to be a new species. Detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations are provided both for taxonomically significant records and the species that are firstly revealed in Ukraine.Документ First record of Macrobiotus beotiae Durante & Maucci, 1979 (Tardigrada: Eutardigrada: Macrobiotidae) in Ukraine(V.N.Karazin Kharkiv National University (Kharkiv, Ukraine), 2008) Kiosya, Ye.O.; Inshina, V.V.; Кіося, Є.О.; Іншина, B.В.In July 2007 samples of moss Tortula ruralis and lichen Xanthoria calcicola were collected on the plateau of Mountain Opuk (Opuk Nature Reserve, Crimea, Ukraine). These samples appeared to contain eggs of an uncommon tardigrade species Macrobiotus beotiae previously known only from two localities in Greece. A distinguishing character of this species is a hyaline envelope, surrounding an egg, in which the processes of two different types are partially immersed (longer processes are conical while shorter ones are round cylindrical or club-shaped).Документ Fungicolous fungi of primeval beech and spruce forests of Ukrainian Carpathians and perspectives of their in-depth study(Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Zurich, 2013) Akulov, O.Yu.Документ Herbage cover heterogeneity as indicator of ecology-phytocoenotical and biotopical diversity in oak forests(V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, 2013) Bezrodnova, O.V.; Loza, I.M.; Nazarenko, N.N.The article is devoted to the identification of biotope diversity. There were surveyed the oak forests grown on the steep ravine slope near the Severskiy Donets River (the Don basin) within the area of National Park "Homolshansky lisy" (Kharkiv region, Ukraine). Study of spatial heterogeneity of herbage cover structure allowed distinguishing statistically significantly the seven types of multi-species mosaics on the coenotical level, which are characterized by specific ecology-phytocoenotical specificity. Such types form coenotical, hygrogen-edaphogenic and climatogenic series of substitution reflected the habitat diversity of surveyed area (as markers of habitat) and were in accord with the typology units of forests in Ukraine. In this paper there were used methods of phytoindication, indirect ordination, and non-parametric correlation analysis.
