The article is devoted to the analysis of classical and modern empires. The review of theoretical and methodological approaches to the category of «global governance» and their practical and functional limitations are given. The existence of a new type of empire «postempire» is determined with post-empire described as a key player of our global governance. The concept of «global empire» is interpreted.
