This dissertation presents a comprehensive sociological study of the phenomenon of social capital, its structure, dynamics, and sources in the modern Ukrainian society. Mechanism and factors of formation and conversion of various forms of social capital are analysed to conclude about the capacity of social capital in Ukraine to serve as a resource of national development. The essence of social capital is described as a productive resource that arises in the system of social relations and can act as a public good, increasing the effectiveness of cooperation at the societal level in the field of economy, governance, civil society. Based on the generalization of theoretical approaches to social capital, its distinguishing characteristics such as productivity, accumulation, ability to convert, social nature of origin, historical and cultural conditionality, structural and contextual roots, general or particular nature, social interaction system as the framework for its reproduction and implementation are outlined. A conceptual scheme of realization and reproduction of social capital of a society is developed that emphasizes interaction and interdependence of its four structural domains: social structure; cognitive-relational characteristics of interaction; individual characteristics that affect the interaction; factors of historical, cultural, political, and economic environment.
