The process of coming to terms with the Soviet past requires an understanding of its different visions. The subject of Ukrainian national communism has long been the subject of insinuations that it is on the verge of a national and Soviet experiment. Representatives of the Ukrainian intellectual elite sought to combine the ideas of Soviet construction and national liberation within a specific vision of the construction of a new social reality. Thus, the construction of a modern Ukrainian state, independent and distant from Russia, became the main ideological task of Ukrainian communists. In addition to the political experiment, Ukrainian national communism is significantly characterised by the socio-cultural transformations that this movement actively produced. Thus, the reception of the revolutionary culture of "our 20s" allows us to understand how Ukrainian communists, embedded in the Soviet regime, influenced not only the political but also the cultural modernisation of the Ukrainian SSR.
