The study proves that the miner's image was a complex ideological construct created by Soviet propaganda to mobilize the population, which simultaneously concealed the harsh realities of extreme working conditions, social injustice, high mortality rates, and the suppression of the Donbas's national identity. The evolution of the image is traced from the Stakhanovite "titan of labor" (1930s), the warrior-rebuilder (1940s), and the well-fed "labor aristocrat" (1960s–1970s) to its complete de-sacralization during the mass strikes of the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was established that the artificial propaganda myth finally collapsed under the pressure of the objective socio-economic crisis when miners regained their political subjectivity, which became a contributing factor to the collapse of the USSR and Ukraine's independence.
