Abstract
The purpose of the study is to carry out a systemic comparison of Western and Eastern models of power legitimation to identify their common features and fundamental differences. Scientific novelty of the work lies in the systematic comparative analysis of power legitimation mechanisms in Western (T. Hobbes) and Eastern (classical Confucianism) traditions using D. Beetham's three-level methodology. For the first time, the fundamental difference between the "static" legitimacy of the contract, based on the alienation of rights for the sake of security, and the "dynamic" legitimacy of resonance, requiring constant ethical confirmation, is explicated. It is substantiated that the studied models represent two alternative ontological strategies for overcoming chaos: through the creation of an artificial sovereign will and through the restoration of natural social harmony.
