Abstract
The presented article contains the results of the literature analysis and own observations, dedicated to the phenomenon of mycorrhization of woody plants with Scleroderma. Scleroderma is a genus of worldwide distributed gasteroid fungi with wide specialization to mycorrhizal substrates. It forms a symbiosis with the plant soon after its seed germination. It’s critical because an adult plant has well-developed root tips, which can’t be penetrated with mycelium. It is proven, that symbiosis with Scleroderma spp. gives plant such benefits as additional nutrition, higher stress resistance, ability to tolerate substrates contaminated with toxic metals, and inhibition of some root pathogens activity. Thus, mycorrhization with Scleroderma can be a perspective method in forestry, gardening, and agriculture.
