About Professional Prostitution in Byzantium at IV—IX Centuries as the Sphere of the Market of Trade and Services In the article investigated the prostitution in Byzantium in epoch of Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages from the point of view of professional employment, categories of prostitutes, types of places of employment prostitution, sizes of the profit in this sphere of trade and services, relation on the part of the state and Church. Is established, that the prostitution was considered of Byzantines as legal line of business, which was subject to taxation. These incomes regularly filled up treasury of the state. The government tried to supervise this sphere of enterprise activity through institute of corporations, curators and loyally concerned to the craft of pornos.
