Публий Клодий и Тигран Младший

Abstract

У 58 р. до н. е. плебейський трибун Публій Клодій викрав з-під арешту сина вірменського царя Тиграна II Тиграна Молодшого. Вірменський принц був заарештований Гнеем Помпеєм у 66 р. до н. е. і утримувався в Римі в якості заручника. У джерелах відсутній чіткий опис інциденту, немає прямих вказівок на подальшу долю Тиграна Молодшого. На нашу думку, на дії Клодія великий вплив мали фінансові міркування — хабар, отриманий від Тиграна Молодшого. Сам же вірменський принц, ймовірно, не пережив різанину на Аппієвій дорозі.

In 58 BC plebeian tribune Publius Clodius released from custody the son of Armenian king Tigranes II Tigran the Younger. Armenian prince was arrested by Pompey in 66 BC and held in Rome as a hostage. There is no clear description of the incident in the sources, there is no direct evidence of the fate of Tigranes the Younger. In our opinion, the actions of Cloudius was greatly influenced by financial considerations — a bribe received from Tigranes the Younger. Armenian prince himself probably did not survive the carnage on the Appian Way.
