Correctness and reliability of historical reconstructions based on the archaeological sources is provided to the great degree by accuracy and objectivity of chronological definitions and their methodical maintanance. The number of chronological elaborations in the studying of Kiev ancient things during last decades was greatly decreased, the chronological scale of Kiev ancient things doesn't created yet. In the published works the stress layed on the absolute dates, creation of the relative scale doesn't formulated as a task. In this paper different aspects of this problem situation are considered and concrete methods for the solution of these tasks by means of investigation of ceramics from the assemblages are proposed.
