Vasyl Nazarovych Karazin – prominent scientist and enlightener: a 21st century vision (to the 250th birth anniversary)

Abstract

У статті проаналізовано творчу спадщину видатного вченого, просвітителя та громадського діяча Василя Назаровича Каразіна (1773–1842) з позицій теорії сталого розвитку. Відзначено основні віхи його біографії, описано та схарактеризовано найголовніші науково-теоретичні, раціоналізаторські та організаційно-управлінські ініціативи. Показано, що на даний момент у літературі досить докладно висвітлено його провідну роль у заснуванні Харківського університету, який став одним із найстаріших та провідних центрів освіти науки і культури не лише в Україні, а й у всьому регіоні Східної Європи. Зазначено, що пам'ять про цю видатну людину має бути увічнена не тільки в країнах, з якими безпосередньо було пов'язане її життя (Україна, Молдова, Болгарія та ін.), а й на наднаціональному рівні.The article analyzes the creative legacy of the outstanding scientist, educator and public figure Vasyl Nazarovych Karazin (1773–1842) from the standpoint of the theory of sustainable development. The main milestones of his biography are noted, the most important scientific and theoretical, rationalization and organizational and managerial initiatives are described and characterized. It is shown that at present the literature sufficiently covers his leading role in the founding of Kharkiv University, which became one of the oldest and leading centers of education, science and culture not only in Ukraine, but also in the entire region of Eastern Europe. It is noted that the memory of this outstanding person should be immortalized not only in the countries with which his life was directly connected (Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria, etc.), but also at the supranational level.
