Abstract

This instruction and training manual is intended for third-year students of the School of Foreign Languages at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University majoring in Philology and Secondary Education (English). It aligns with the syllabi for Foreign Language I and II and presents contemporary, thematically rich materials covering business, politics, technology, art, creativity, and cinema. Each unit follows a consistent structure including text or media input, vocabulary development, speaking and writing tasks, discussions, debates, and video-based activities. The progression from comprehension to active production encourages students to apply new language in meaningful interaction. Grounded in communicative and student-centered approaches, the manual fosters fluency, coherence, argumentative skills, and critical thinking. It can be used both in classroom instruction and for independent study.

Навчально-методичний посібник «Осмислюючи Сучасність» призначений для студентів третього курсу факультету іноземних мов Харківського національного університету імені В. Н. Каразіна спеціальностей «Філологія» та «Середня освіта (Англійська мова)». Він відповідає програмам дисциплін «Іноземна мова I» та «Іноземна мова II» і містить сучасні тематично насичені матеріали з питань бізнесу, політики, технологій, мистецтва, креативності та кіно. Кожний розділ має чітку структуру: текстові або медіаматеріали, лексичні вправи, завдання з говоріння та письма, дискусії, дебати й відеоактивності. Посібник сприяє переходу від розуміння до активного мовленнєвого продукування, розвиває аргументаційні вміння, критичне мислення, зв’язність і доречність висловлювання. Може використовуватися як на практичних заняттях, так і для самостійної роботи студентів.
